QUESTIONS ABOUT THE RKS TECHNIK
RESETTER
Here are
some questions asked by customers, if you do not find
your answer here, please email
us and we will
promptly answer.
I have been
resetting the same ink cartridges for years, always over-riding
my Canon printer. If I purchase one of your resetters can I
stop doing this, and will my printer then tell me how much ink
is in my cartridges?
Answer: Yes, but this is a
qualified yes. If
you have been using the same cartridges with the same chips in
place for years, the chips are most likely
de-activated.
You will need to get a new set of ink
cartridges or a new set of chips, to use with the
resetter.
Once a set of chips has been
de-activated they can no longer be reset.
We have also seen one customer who was completely unable to get
his Canon printer to read the ink levels on any new Canon Ink
Cartridge. I am guessing that after so many over-rides he
damaged something in his printer.
So, if you have been over-riding, test your printer's
ink level monitor by buying a new ink cartridge and make sure
it reads the ink levels before purchasing our
resetter. Then make certain you have a set of chips
that have not be de-activated.
Can I use Canon original ink cartridges
as well as non-oem, re-manufactured or other compatible
cartridges with this Chip Resetter
simultaneously?
Answer:
Yes, original and compatible cartridges can
be used in any combination.
Does the product
come with easy to read instructions?
Answer:
Yes. You
will receive a sheet with simple instructions in English,
Italian, French, German, and Spanish. Resetting any chip
is very simple and can be performed by a
layperson.
Will the cartridges be emptied
completely or – like with other systems – will a certain
amount of ink remain in the tank that I have to
discard?
Answer:
Yes, completely. The cartridges will be
completely emptied, exactly like the original
cartridges.
Do I need a
different chip for each cartridge?
Answer:
Yes, you need an original chip
for every different color cartridge. The chips can be new or
used, or still on the original Canon
cartridges. (Each color cartridge
has a color specific chip that your printer and computer will
identify, so make sure not to mix up the chips. Always do one
color at a tie to make sure you get it
right.)
Do I have to
change the settings of my printer or my printer software
(printer drivers)
Answer:
No. All settings remain
unchanged.
Will
using this Chip Resetter effect my printer's
warranty?
Answer:
No. Refilling your inkjet cartridge does
not tamper with your printer in any way, and therefore
does not effect your warranty. Under the Magnuson-Moss
Warranty Improvement Act, the consumer is allowed the
right to choose any consumable they desire for their
printer, and allowed to make any repairs to the printer
cartridge they deem necessary. This allows for the use of
refill kits and compatible
cartridges
Is the system compatible with Windows
Vista?
Answer:
Yes. Our chip
resetter will work with all versions of Windows, all
Operating systems including MAC OS.
I'm considering
buying a Canon Pixma MP520, which uses PGI 5BK and the
CLI-8 inks. What exactly do I need do to reset the
chip?
Answer:
This resetter is really easy to use. If you
have an original Canon Cartridge with the chip still
attached, you simply place the cartridge with the chip
facing bottom (like when you put it into your printer)
and press it into place. The unit will flash a steady led
light when the chip has been reset - it takes about 5
seconds. You do exactly the same thing if you have a
remanufactured or compatible cart which you have attached
a chip too.
Is there a limited
number of times that I can reset each tank? On my old
Canon I refilled indefinitely but I realize they did not
have the chip.
Answer:
There is no limit as to how
many times you can reset the chip on any tank.
Refilling a
cartridge is only limited to the condition of the
tank. I have spoken to some people who have had
their Canon printers for years and still continue to
refill the original ink cartridges.
As you know, it is only recently that Canon has added chips to
their printers, so that is why a resetter now is important to
have. Especially if you have a multifunction printer which
includes a fax machine, because it will not print out the faxes
automatically if the chip in your cartridge has not been
reset.
